Coconut Balls

05 December 2007

Objective: The children will learn how to make chocolate coconut balls. Apart from being a fun and exciting activity, the children will also acquire other skills, such as weighing and measuring, and getting to do tasty things for themselves.

Materials:

Coconut

Biscuits

Cocoa powder

Sugar

Evaporated milk

Mixing bowls

Teaspoons

Measuring jugs

Containers

Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, crush the biscuits and add the sugar and the cocoa powder.
  2. Add the evaporated milk and knead the mixture to form dough.
  3. Take a little of the mixture, using a teaspoon, and form into small balls onto the palm of your hand.
  4. Roll each ball onto some coconut.

      5.   Store the coconut balls into a container.

Result:  The children had a great time doing the coconut balls. At first they were not keen on getting to knead the mixture as it would get their hands dirty. However, as the first child made the first step, all the children joined, and all of them made their own tasty coconut balls.
